In the last few decades the transport of goods has probably been affected most by the shipping container. Trade and indeed the whole process of
globalization, have been enabled more than anything by the introduction of
the shipping container, or to be more exact, by the development of the
system of container transport, which includes all the handling
infrastructure, specialised cranes, systems for tracking the movement of
containers, specialised carriers, (ships, lorries, and rail) and
facilities for packing and unpacking.
A MAIT goods cabin would have many of the properties of a small shipping
container, it would allow goods to be transported with no intermediate
handling.
